Get clear answers to common questions about comparing health coverage, plan costs, provider networks, prescriptions, and enrollment options.
Most people can enroll in Marketplace health insurance during Open Enrollment, which usually runs from November 1 through January 15. Outside that window, you may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you lose coverage, move, get married, have a baby, turn 26, or experience another qualifying life event. For qualified individuals, some private health coverage options may also be available year-round.
You may qualify for lower monthly premiums based on your household income, family size, location, and the plans available in your area. Some people may see very low-cost or $0 premium plans, but it is important to compare the deductible, network, prescriptions, and out-of-pocket costs before choosing.
The monthly premium is only one part of the cost. You should also compare deductibles, copays, coinsurance, prescription coverage, provider networks, out-of-pocket maximums, and whether your preferred doctors and hospitals are in-network.
Marketplace health plans cannot deny you coverage or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition. Pregnancy and childbirth are also covered from the day your Marketplace plan starts.
