Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has raised issues about Tucker Carlson being a potential vice presidential running mate with Donald Trump in the 2024 elections.

Carlson, once among Fox New’s biggest stars and ratings draws, abruptly parted ways with the outlet in late April for reasons that still remain unclear. However, Carlson has since taken to X, formerly Twitter, to continue his political commentary, often speaking on major political issues.

Meanwhile, Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, said in early November that he would consider Carlson as his running mate if he became the GOP’s 2024 nominee. Since then, a growing group of Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters have voiced their approval on social media.

However, in an episode of Coulter’s podcast in which she interviewed New York Times reporter Jeremy Peters in early November, they discussed the Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit, which alleges the network promoted lies claiming its equipment switched votes from Trump to President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Coulter went on to ask Peters what Carlson’s feelings towards Trump were in regards to the Dominion discovery, which made public legal documents that revealed a text conversation between the former Fox host and an unnamed person where Carlson said that he hated Trump “passionately” and was looking forward to no longer having to talk about him on air.

“Early on you heard Tucker basically saying things like, and these are verbatim quotes, that is he is a demonic force, a destroyer and that he is ultimately responsible for the deaths that happened on January 6. We know that Tucker, like many people at Fox expressed a deep disdain for Trump and disrespect for him. The discovery showed how little they thought of this man,” Peters said.

Newsweek has reached out to Carlson and Trump via email for comment.

Coulter continued to raise the concern over Carlson’s feelings towards the former president while taking aim at Trump in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, sharing a clip of that podcast episode and saying, “Half the people Trump claims to be considering as his VP (thus smearing them) can’t stand the guy. When he’s not in front of a camera, here’s what Tucker thinks of Trump.”

Coulter has had fallings out with Trump over the years, becoming one of his fiercest Republican critics. In August, Coulter described the former president as “a gigantic baby” who “can barely speak English,” while also praising Ron DeSantis ahead of the first 2024 GOP primary debate, in which Trump declined to participate.

Trump has also fired shots in the escalating war of words with Coulter, calling her a “wacky nut job” when her criticism of his failure to complete a U.S.-Mexico border wall was ramping up in 2019. In September, Trump referred to Coulter as a “stone cold loser” and “unbearably crazy.”

Coulter responded to Trump’s recent comments with a fiery post on X, claiming that the ex-president had “begged” to reconcile with her at a meeting in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Carlson has seemingly flipped back and forth between supporting Trump and criticizing him.

In March, Carlson praised Trump for his 2024 plans, despite the previous comments revealed in the Dominion lawsuit.

While in June, Carlson claimed that Trump is facing 37 federal felony counts due to opposing “the neocon war agenda.”
